About 300 MWh of grid scale battery storage across three NESS projects in development, structured for Armenia’s storage licensing framework.

NESS, New Energy Storage Solutions, is the Karensi Power company that develops battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Armenia. Its pipeline holds about 300 MWh of grid scale storage across three projects. All three are in development, structured for Armenia’s storage licensing framework.
The need is a system one. Armenia’s installed solar capacity reached about 1,253 MW on 1 September 2026. On sunny days the midday surplus forces thermal plants, at times the nuclear plant, to cut output.
The Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) treats these cuts as a short term measure and names storage as the long term solution. The government program for 2026 to 2031 sets a target of at least 800 MW of electricity storage by 2031.
Law HO-228-N, adopted on 11 May 2026, takes effect on 4 December 2026 and makes storage a licensed activity. As of October 2026 the PSRC is preparing the secondary rules with European experts: the licensing procedure, market rules and grid codes.
NESS works in three steps. Develop: we originate grid scale battery storage projects across Armenia and take each one from site identification through grid interconnection. Structure: we shape each project to fit the licensing framework and its financing requirements, so the regulatory and financing work runs alongside development.
Deliver: we manage permitting, procurement and construction locally. Our accountability for the asset continues once it delivers power to the grid, not only until construction ends.
Behind NESS stands an operating company. Karensi Power, based in Yerevan, has operated since 2019 and runs three solar plants on the grid, 11.6 MW of installed capacity in total. Storage development builds on that operating record.
Two of the plants also carry a lender track record. ARSUN was financed by the German development bank KfW with a 12 year loan tenor. Stellar Energy was financed through Armswissbank with a government subsidized loan.
